GM doing its part to help community children keep our water clean

Math, English, and history are all typical subjects that young students learn in school now a days, but there’s another thing that many communities are now starting to teach their children and that is how to take care of their communities. They feel that one day they will be the decision makers of tomorrow so they want to teach them how to take care of their world today. GM has seen how important  teaching these skills to children are and GM headquarters tells the used cars Naples dealer that they have joined forces with a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people learn how to take care of the environment and have created GM GREEN.

The GM GREEN program gets GM employees and teachers across the country to lead students in activities, such as how to build rain gardens to filter storm water, organize river clean-ups, and they teach them about things such as local water quality. GM headquarters tells the Naples GMC Yukon hybrid dealer that the GM GREEN has been running for the past 20 years in more than 32 communities. GM senior environmental engineer and coordinator of the GM GREEN program, Teri Kline describes what the goal of the GM GREEN program is, “The GREEN program and those like it work to engage the entire community in fostering environmental citizenship in our young people.”

GM headquarters tells the used cars Naples dealer that the most recent event that GM GREEN was a part was at last month’s 15th annual Children’s Water Festival at Michigan State University. At this event GM employees from the Lansing Delta Township factories provided hands-on lessons that showed more than 2,000 fourth, fifth and sixth graders from school districts around Michigan how over fertilizing their lawn or dumping soapy water from car washing into storm sewers can hurt local streams and lakes. They are trying to help teach these students by doing simple steps like this can make a huge impact on our environment.

I think the GM GREEN program can not only help the children but can help adults as well. I never would have thought to pour my soapy water in the sink to save our lakes and streams. It’s nice to see a company’s employees doing something to better our world and not just thinking of themselves.
