GMC continuously working to improve their vehicles: brake override systems to become standard features
Imagine driving off with a newly purchased car from a GM used cars Naples dealership with the utmost peace of mind. That peace of mind is exactly what GM wants for all of its customers, as they continue to work to improve their vehicles. By the year 2012, GM will incorporate brake override systems on every model that has automatic transmission and electronic throttle control.
Currently, there are several brake-override GM models sold around the country at GM dealers selling new and used cars. Naples dealers are especially pushing for the brake override system. The Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro, and the Cobalt are just three out of nine models that are sold with this precautionary system. However, in lieu of unintentional acceleration claims that have most recently affected the Toyota automotive maker, GM has decided to take on a much more active approach in their products’ and customers’ safety. Instead of having only nine car models sold with the brake override system, all of their models, including used Canyon Naples, will have the system by 2012.
As previously noted, this brake-override system is not a brand new concept in and of itself. It is essentially a reinforced smart pedal. This reduces engine power, during daunting times, when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pressed at the same time. Even though GM has had a braking performance standard for the past few years, the brake override system will provide an extra safeguard.
According to Tom Stephens, vice chairman of GM Global Product Operations, “News media analysis of government data consistently validates that GM’s safety record on this issue is among the strongest in the industry. At the same time, we know safety is top of mind for consumers, so we are applying additional technology to reassure them that they can count on the brakes in their GM vehicle.”
This is really good news for consumers who are worried about unintended acceleration. With this system correctly implemented, there is no reason why a driver cannot bring his vehicle to a stop. Anyone interested in learning more should contact GM or their local GM used cars Naples dealership.
