Tiring of poor fuel economy? Check your tires!

In Naples, GMC Envoy drivers may be surprised to learn that their tires could be to blame for the decrease in the fuel economy of their mid size SUV.  It is true, ill maintenance of your vehicle’s tires can put a bigger dent in your pocket than necessary.  The type of tires that are currently on your car can also have a negative impact on the amount of gas mileage you get.

Let’s talk about maintenance.  We are not talking about maintaining and preserving our Earth, like Naples GMC Yukon Hybrid drivers do on a daily basis.  We are strictly talking about your vehicle’s tire maintenance.  That is correct my friends, your tires need to be cared for and maintained to your best ability if you want to get the most fuel economy.

Unlike any other up keeping you need to take care of as an adult, such as paying your bills on time, fixing the kitchen sink, or preparing healthy family meals, maintaining the tires on your car is as easy as one, two, three.  One, make sure your tires are properly inflated at all times.  If you are not sure as to the correct tire pressure, simply open your driver’s door and inside the doorjamb you will find a sticker that will tell you the exact pressure to use on your tires.  Two, when you are at home working in the garage or even taking out the trash, check your tire inflation pressure at least once a month.  Remember, you want to check the pressure when you haven’t made a trip using your car in a while and the tires are cool.  If you check the pressure when the tires are hot, you may get an inaccurate reading.  Three, take note of the tires that your vehicle initially came with, as they very well were designed with low rolling resistance, a trait that helps you get the most gas mileage out of your car.

Finally, if you need to purchase replacement tires and forgot the name of tires that were initially on your brand new car, check Consumer Reports’ Ratings for helpful information regarding tires designed with low rolling resistance, such as the Michelin Energy Saver AS, that could save you up to $100 per year in gas.
